About AdOpsRule.com
AdOpsRule LLC is a one-person consultancy. When you email this site you reach Ilya Utkin, and Ilya is the person who does the work — there is no bench, no junior analyst running the numbers, and no account manager between the diagnosis and the person who wrote it.
Twenty years on the publisher side
Nearly all of that experience was earned inside publishers rather than at a vendor, an agency, or an exchange. That distinction matters more than it sounds. A vendor optimises for the part of the stack it sells. An agency optimises for the buy. A publisher has to make the whole thing pay for a newsroom, and has to keep it paying next quarter with whatever integrations the last three regimes left behind.
Two of those roles were Director-level ad operations: one at Hearst Magazines, across a portfolio of brand sites with their own sales teams, their own direct business, and the reconciliation problems that come with both; and one at the New York Daily News, where traffic arrives in unpredictable spikes and the stack has to hold up on the day a story breaks rather than on an average Tuesday.
Between them, that is a decade of owning the number rather than advising on it — running the ad server, negotiating with the SSPs, explaining a shortfall to finance, and being the person who has to have an answer when revenue moves and nobody knows why.
What this consultancy actually does
Eight engagement types, listed on the services page, all of them variations on the same method: find what is costing money before anyone agrees what to build. Header bidding and Prebid architecture, video and CTV ad tech, revenue operations, Google Ad Manager structure, first-party data and brand safety, day-to-day ad operations, mobile and emerging formats, and fractional Head of AdOps work for publishers who need the seniority without the headcount.
The deliverable is never a deck of best practices. It is an as-built map of what you actually have, a ranked list of specific changes, the revenue each one is holding back, and the metric that will prove or kill it. Most publishers discover during the first engagement that nobody had ever written the as-built map down.
Why the free tools exist
The GAM video request analyzer and the other diagnostics on this site are free and require no account. They exist because the fastest way to show an operator that something is wrong with their stack is to let them paste in a real ad request and read the answer themselves. They are also the honest version of a lead magnet: if the tool tells you nothing is broken, you do not need to hire anybody.
How this site is funded
Consulting engagements, and nothing else. AdOpsRule.com runs no advertising of its own, has no affiliate links, sells no data, and has no newsletter to sign up for. Google Analytics counts page views; that is the extent of the measurement. What the site does collect, and what it sends where, is set out in the privacy policy.
There is a certain irony in an ad ops consultancy running no ads. It is deliberate: the diagnostic tools are meant to be read carefully, and nothing on the page should be competing with them for attention.
The short version: two decades inside publisher ad operations, two Director-level seats, and a consultancy of exactly one person who still does the work personally. If that is the shape of help you need, the next step is a scoping conversation, and those are free.
